Romo and Simpson hitched?

The mentor is going to be mad at me for putting Cowboys news, but this is some weird important news flash:

Jessica Simpson's mother claims her daughter has secretly remarried. As Simpson and her mother Tina were leaving Chili's restaurant in Los Angeles Tuesday, Tina revealed that her 27-year-old daughter has secretly wed.
Asked if Simpson was planning to marry football star Tony Romo, whom she had been dating since last November, Tina laughed and responded to the inquiry, "Jessica is already married to Tony. What are you talking about?"

Simpson, who was previously married to singer Nick Lachey, giggled and told gossip Web site TMZ.com, "Well I guess if my mom said it, it must be true!"

Next Season Opener

The NFL's Thursday night season opener will match the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, with the game possibly starting an hour-and-a-half earlier to avoid clashing with the Republican National Convention.

The game is now scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 4 -- the concluding night of the Republican convention -- and will be televised by NBC. League spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday that the NFL is talking with the network about changing the game's starting time to 7 p.m.

The Super Bowl winner traditionally hosts the game. The Redskins' participation was confirmed by a person familiar with the NFL schedule who spoke on condition of anonymity because the league has not announced it. The Washington Post earlier reported that the Redskins will be facing the Giants in the season opener.

The highlight games of the NFL's first weekend will be announced Monday during league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. The rest of the schedule will be announced later next month.

The Super Bowl Shuffle

Back in 1985 the Chicago Bears prior to the Super Bowl number 20, decided to record a rap song, this song was infamously known as The 'super bowl shuffle' in the super bowl the Bears defeated the Patriots 46-10.

The idea for the song came from Record Producer Randy Weigand, who was good friends with Willie Gault, he got this idea after seeing the song called 'the Kingfish shuffle' on a famous sitcom at the time, after this, he thought the Bears singing would make a really good marketing strategy, and he was right.

An extract of the song reads something like this: "So bring on Atlanta, bring on Dallas, this is for Mike and Papa Bear Halas", this referring of course to their former legendary coach Mike Ditka as well as Halas, referring to George Halas.

The performers in the song included Walter Payton 'Sweetness', 'Punky QB' Jim McMahon, and 'Samurai' Mike Singletary, among many others, besides the singers, some were part of the shufflin crew band and some were part of the shufflin crew chorus. The song amazingly reached #41 on the billboard charts and #75 on the R&B/Hip Hop lists.

Throughout the years this has been material for numerous parodies, including a great one from Saturday Night Live where Tom Brady plays McMahons part...

Id like to see another team give this a try...

Hairy Situation

At next week's NFL owners meeting, some owners are pushing for a rule change that would prevent Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and other players with dreadlocks or long hair from covering the names on the backs of their jerseys. The rule is pretty simple... any hair that covers that area has to be addressed.

It doesn't mean players have to cut their hair, they might have to keep it under their helmet.

Hair is considered part of the uniform, so normally there is no penalty for grabbing the hair and tackling a player.

Historically, the NFL has been strict in enforcing uniform violations. A sock that is out of place or a shirt that isn't tucked in could result in substantial fines. Now, if this proposal is passed, long-haired players will have to decide whether to cut the hair or tuck it inside the helmet.

NFL Cheerleaders

For many NFL teams, their franchise also includes a cheerleading squad. Cheerleaders are a popular attraction that can give a team more coverage, airtime, popular local support and increased media image.

For the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys was the first team to introduce the concept of cheerleaders to NFL football in 1960.

According to most NFL cheerleading sites, cheerleading is classified as a part-time job. However, this "part-time" job is a substantial commitment of time for practice, camp, games, appearances, photo shoots, and charity events.

Most often, cheerleaders have completed or are attending a university, and continue on to other careers after cheering for an average of 1 to 4 seasons.

Apart from their main duties of cheering during the football games, the cheerleaders have many other responsibilities. Nearly every team member is available for appearances at schools, events, conferences, etc. An anticipated annual event is the release of each squad's calendar, featuring members for each month in swimsuits, lingerie, or uniforms.

As of 2006, a competition strictly for NFL cheerleaders was introduced on The NFL Network, called NFL Cheerleader Playoffs. Two girls from each cheerleading team compete against other mini-teams in various athletic events. This includes kayaking, 100 yd. dash, obstacle courses... and more.

Each year, one squad member from every NFL team is chosen to participate in the collective Pro Bowl cheerleading squad. Traditionally, this is the highest honor of talent and popularity an NFL cheerleader can receive.

Pacman controversy

With not much news going around the nfl right now, one of the hottest topics on everyones mind is the future of star CB Pacman Jones, the following is an extract from an Espn article regarding his situation, you can click on the quote or the pic to go to the complete article:

As of this moment, Pacman Jones is not allowed to play in the NFL. He also might be the most talented player remaining as free agency dwindles into the stage where role players are all that's left.

That's why, all of a sudden, Jones is at the center of trade rumors. He's a talented cornerback, who was drafted by Tennessee in the first round in 2005 and spent two years starting and working as a top-notch return man. Throw in the fact the Titans would probably be glad to unload Jones for a mid-round draft pick, and it's no wonder some other teams are getting excited about the possibilities. There's even an outside chance Goodell could allow the Titans to trade Jones' rights before he's reinstated. That would be a gamble for any potential trading partner. But it might be a gamble some teams, but certainly not all, will consider taking. The Detroit Lions already have said publicly they're not interested in Jones. Undoubtedly, there are other teams that have the same feeling. The Oakland Raiders, who have had more than their fair share of troubled players in the past, also are out after trading for DeAngelo Hall.

Right now the teams that have mentioned being interested in acquiring Pacman from the Titans are the Dallas Cowboys, the New England Patriots, the Buccaneers and the Giants... these are the biggest contenders right now, but come draft day, anything can happen....

Favre's Number Retired

At some point this next season... Number 4 officially will be no more in Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers have had preliminary discussions with recently retired Quarterback Brett Favre about retiring his number during the upcoming season.

The Packers and Favre will choose a game for the retirement ceremony after the NFL regular season schedule is released.

The Packers have retired five uniform numbers: Tony Canadeo's (3), Don Hutson's (14), Bart Starr's (15), Ray Nitschke's (66) and Reggie White's (92).

I recently felt like a plain old guy when I met this young fella from my town of Monterrey...

I spent the whole week on a mission camp outside the city with a group of 90 kids from around the country who wanted to do some missions with us to the people... the point of story is not that, but that I met this really funny kid named Randall Cruz, who was basically the leader of the group of kids and a really funny guy, but there was also something really funny about him.... you dont expect someone from Monterrey to be named Randall, specially not when its followed by Cruz, so one day I decided to ask him...

I say to him, why is your name Randall? and his answer was as funny and weird as it could be... well, my name is Randall because of this Quarterback who played for my dads favorite team when I was born...

This kid is 12 years old so when he was born it was 1996, just one year after Randall Cunningham left the eagles... After learning this I told him about MR Playbook and promised him he would get a special mention on the page so here he is: Randall Cruz...

By the way, the nickname the guys gave him for the whole week was 'Adal' cause of his eerie resemblance to mexican comedian Adal Ramones....

A funny story that I thought it was worth mentioning to a lot of fans who like me, remember seeing Cunningham play...

Last season the San Francisco 49ers had 3 different QB starters but there seems to be a bigger QB controversy in the 49ers this next season, coach Mike Nolan has made it clear that Shaun Hill, who seems to have taken on great status after a few decent starts late last season, will compete with former No. 1 draft pick Alex Smith for the starting quarterback job.

Hill wasn't even drafted and spent most of his career in NFL Europe and on the Minnesota bench, has been given a new contract. Maybe this is coach Nolan's way of trying to challenge Smith to step up. But Nolan and Smith sniped at each other last season about the severity of the quarterback's shoulder injury.

Maybe Smith can get back into good graces and succeed under new offensive coordinator Mike Martz. But, keep in mind, Martz had a lot of success with another former NFL Europe quarterback... Kurt Warner when he was in St. Louis.

Ocho Cinco A Cowboy?

On and off for the past couple months, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson has been publicly picturing himself in the uniform of just about every NFL team -- except the Cincinnati Bengals.

He did it again the other night and this one was grander than the rest. On a national television talk show, Johnson envisioned himself playing with the Dallas Cowboys. Picture Johnson and Terrell Owens together, catching passes from Tony Romo with Jessica Simpson in the stands. Picture Jerry Jones presiding over a circus bigger than the one he had in the days of Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer.

Now, picture the Bengals. They have a wide receiver, who despite all his quirks, is one of the most talented players in the game. They have him under contract. The Bengals, who have put up with Johnson's antics throughout his career, have been saying he's not going anywhere.

But this time could be different. Johnson keeps trying to lobby his way out of Cincinnati and history has shown it's tough to silence him. Despite their public stance, you have to wonder if Bengals owner Mike Brown and coach Marvin Lewis might start thinking enough is enough.

With each time Johnson opens his mouth, the potential for an ugly breakup becomes stronger. Controversy seems to follow Johnson (largely because he creates it). But this isn't the only show worth watching at a time when free agency has become boring and the draft is still more than a month away.

The Madden Curse

The Madden Curse, also known as the Madden Cover Jinx, is a myth involving the video game series Madden NFL, stating that during or after the season, if a player appears on the cover solo, that player will be cursed with either an injury or poor performance.

Prior to 1999, the cover consisted of a prominent image of John Madden, occasionally appearing with some player graphics as a background accent to the cover design. Since 1999, notable NFL players have endorsed the game each year with their image prominently on the front cover of at least one version of the game, and John Madden's association is now largely based in the game series' title.

Players who have appeared on the cover since 1999 have generally failed to reproduce their success of the previous years, for a variety of reasons. Marshall Faulk, Daunte Culpepper, Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, Donovan McNabb, and Shaun Alexander all have suffered significant playing injuries in the season that they appeared on the cover. These performances and injuries resulted in speculation of a curse.

The "Madden Curse" has evolved into a much-reported phenomenon, with several news and sports media outlets referring to it as a phenomenon on par with the fabled Sports Illustrated cover jinx.

In total, the eleven cover players since 1999 had a total of forty Pro Bowl appearances prior to their Madden cover appearances... compared with just four Pro Bowl appearances afterward.

Americas Next Top Model

In the picture, clockwise from left: Texans Mario Williams, Buffalo's Marshawn Lynch, Lions Edwin Mulitalo, Panthers Mike Wahle, Bengals Domata Peko, Patriots Reche Caldwell, Green Bay's Atari Bigby, and twin brother offensive linemen Pat and Paul McQuistan.

Just recently I found this interesting forum wandering around the net, and thought I'd share it with our readers.
The post title was: "Who do you think are the scariest and meanest looking players in the NFL?"
Its fun to talk about it, cause we always see the good looking ones on the news, with Tom Brady being the center of attention and Tony Romo having fun with Jessica Simpson, we also hear about Jason Taylor and John Lynch and all the other 'pretty boys' in the league. But no one ever really honors the true scary ones, the mean looking ones, and specially the ones that really look like an NFL player and not just some male model...

From Domata Peko's Red Afro, to Marshawn Lync and Chad Johnson golden teeth. From Atari Bigby's and Mike McKenzie's Rastas to Mario Williams and Mike Wahle's tremendous sizes... these are just a few of these players, and probably the most notorious ones...

I assure you there are lots and lots more of the scary looking ones in the league, than the good looking ones, these mentioned might be the scariest and meanest, but there are quite a few left, that it would be impossible to name all of them... If you know another one please share it with us and our readers!

Dancing with Jason Taylor

If you wondered why Bill Parcells is strongly considering on releasing Dolphins Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Taylor it might be because of this:

Jason Taylor is catching dance fever. Taylor will be the first active NFL player to compete on the popular ABC program and is one of a dozen celebrities who have signed on to compete on the next season of "Dancing With the Stars."

Two NFL legends have competed in previous seasons. Jerry Rice was the first former NFL player to be a contestant. Former Cowboy Emmitt Smith followed. Smith won after Rice finished third. The other contestants competing against Taylor include actors Marlee Matlin, Shannon Elizabeth and Steve Guttenberg; tennis champion Monica Seles, magician Penn Jillette, R&B singer Mario, Priscilla Presley, Kristi Yamaguchi and Adam Carolla ABC announced Monday night.

Taylor is this year's NFL Man of the Year Award Winner and last year's NFL Defensive Player of the Year. The six-time All Pro formed the Jason Taylor Foundation in 2004 and continues to be heavily involved throughout the South Florida community. Taylor holds the NFL record for touchdowns by a defensive lineman (7) and is the Dolphins all-time leader in quarterback sacks (117) and consecutive games played (130).

The Vince Lombardi Trophy

Have you ever wondered why the Super Bowl Trophy is named The Lombardi Trophy? How about it's size? How much is it worth? Here is a little explanation about it…

The Vince Lombardi Trophy is the trophy awarded each year to the winning team of the National Football League's annual championship game, the Super Bowl.

It is considered to be the NFL's most prestigious award. The trophy was originally called the "World Championship Game Trophy" in 1967, when the Super Bowl was originally named the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. It was renamed in 1970 in memory of legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi to commemorate his victories in the first two Super Bowls.

Since Super Bowl XXX, it is presented to the winning team's owner on the field following the game. Previously, the trophy was presented inside the winning team's locker room. The trophy is valued at $25,000 dollars. The trophy depicts a regulation-size football in kicking position that is made entirely of sterling silver. It stands 55 cm tall, weighs 3 kg, and takes approximately four months and 72 man-hours to create. The words "Vince Lombardi Trophy" and the NFL logo are engraved on the base. After the trophy is awarded, it is sent back to Tiffany & Co. to be engraved with the winning team's name, the date and final score of the Super Bowl.

The winning team is rewarded the trophy afterwards. The team is allowed to keep the trophy at their own facility.

Who wanted it more?

I didnt know about this, but apparently the NFL had a whole campaing surrounding this years super bowl, the official slogan was "Who wants it more?" and even in the super bowl trophy ceremony there was a banner behind the giants that said, "We wanted it more".

Well, this years campaign and super bowl logo are already out, and we already have them for you here on MR.

The new campaign slogan is "Believe in Now" im not really sure what they were looking for with this, but their marketing experts and they will know how to really exploit this... I guess with last years finish to the super bowl, they truly made honor to the Who wants it more slogan, and Eli simply did... maybe on this years super bowl the underdog will have to really believe...

Heres an extract of the article from the new nfl slogan:

“Believe In Now” is the season long theme for the NFL’s 2008 NFL campaign. The league introduced the marketing platform, along with the logo for Super Bowl XLIII, to about 300 licensees, team officials and retailers who gathered at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., last week for the sixth annual summit of “hard lines,” or non apparel, licensees.

"W
e decided to go with something new that focused on the emotion and passion of the NFL while dialing up the sense of urgency,” Jamie Weston said. “We want fans to feel like they can’t miss a moment, because there might be a ‘now’ moment at any time during the season.”

The NFL and Mexico

NFL IN MEXICO

Its been interesting to see how the General Managers of several teams have been addressing this situation, some teams have already added mexican born players to their rosters, so that their fan base in Mexico can increase, being Marketing geniuses, they know what adding mexicans to their teams mean.

Some examples of mexicans that have already signed lately with NFL teams are Rolando Cantu, who is currently an offensive lineman on the Arizona Cardinals, Ramiro Pruneda, who is also on the O-Line of Kansas City Chiefs (the guys who open roads for Larry Johnson), there was also a well known LB in the Texans Practice Squad, Eduardo Castaneda. So you can already see that teams are making these efforts, and the coaches over here in Mexico are the ones who are also pushing them harder and harder so they become better players for the future, hopefully in the NFL. Coach Frank Gonzalez of Borregos Salvajes is already well known around the league, and teams come to him for advice on mexican players.

I hope that someday we can maybe see an NFL franchise in Mexico, Canada and why not even London?

Here are a few extracts from an article I found on the USA Today about how the NFL is constantly looking to expand its borders, and is currently being heavily attracted to Mexico and Canada.

"For clubs close to Mexico, marketing across the border goes hand in hand with appealing to burgeoning Hispanic communities in their own cities.

"They get almost a double benefit," said Mark Waller, the NFL's senior vice president of marketing and sales. "They grow the fan base in the local market. At the same time, they build a second fan base in the international market."

So many people travel back and forth between the U.S. and Mexico and have family and friends in both places that when a resident of either country starts rooting for an NFL team, it can resonate across the border."

"Of Mexico's population of about 105 million, almost 20 million people are familiar with the NFL, Gonzalez-Soberanes said. There are 3-4 million core fans, who tend to be educated men aged 18-34, many of whom have traveled to the U.S.

Research shows that football is the second most-watched sport in Mexico behind soccer, Gonzalez-Soberanes said. The NFL doesn't expect to overtake soccer in popularity, but it doesn't have to."

New NFL Logo

The National Football League is changing it's logo, for the first time in 38 years... but only so slightly.

The new design features eight stars representing the 8 divisions... instead of the previous 25, a more two-dimensional football and a new font style for the NFL letters.

The old NFL logo was probably the second best in sports, behind the NBA's but when you look at the old, compared to the new, I think the new is definitely an improvement on an already classic look.

The new logo will not be used until April, starting around the time of the NFL Draft.

Gatlin Headed To The NFL?

Olympic sprint champion Justin Gatlin showed off his skills to NFL scouts Wednesday during Tennessee's pro timing day.

Gatlin is the reigning Olympic 100-meter gold medalist. He received a potential eight-year ban for doping violations, but that ban was reduced to four years.

He is appealing the ban in hopes of voiding the first of his two doping violations to be allowed to compete this summer in the Beijing Games.

Gatlin tested positive for excessive levels of testosterone at the Kansas Relays in 2006, his second doping offense. The first came in 2001 when Gatlin tested positive for amphetamines, part of a prescribed medication he was taking for attention deficit disorder.

Gatlin was among 14 former Tennessee players to participate in the pro timing event on Wednesday, which was closed to the public.

The NFL draft is April 26-27.

Strengths: has the look of a pro-style back. He has the ideal size and strength for the position and is a tough runner with a strong lower body. He is effective as an interior runner showing good acceleration to the hole and also has the power to run through defenders. Above average speed but struggles at times beating defenders to the outside. Labeled as more of a power runner, still possesses the speed necessary to threaten defenses and is a legit home run threat. Has good lateral quickness and cutback ability, but is a bit more of a straight line back.

Weakness: has had a history of being careless with the ball but seems to have improved his ball security. He lacks elite speed for the position but is still effective and plays with good overall game speed.

NFL Comparison: Thomas Jones

Projected Round: Round 1

Note: Some experts believe Mendenhall will be a better back in the NFL than McFadden for a great number of issues, in fact in several draft boards he comes up as the number 1 back so dont be surprised if he comes up in the top 10 on draft day.

Forever 80

When I think of an NFL receiver, there is always someone who comes up first. Jerry Rice, why? well, as far as I can remember, he has been the greatest receiver the league has seen. Playing 15 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers (1985-2000), he made sure his name was immortalized forever on that field, and most importantly, he immortalized his number.

Number 80 in San Francisco has always had a special meaning for the city and the fans, ever since Rice was there it has been known only as his number, just like Montana's 16 or Ronnie Lott's 42, this number is one and only......... or is it?

The 49ers decided to sign 14 yr veteran receiver and third all time in receiving yards Isaac Bruce from the Rams as a free agent on 2008, only behind Tim Brown and the one and only Jerry Rice, but when the team was doing this signing, they knew the implications of bringing Bruce, he wears number 80 on his back...

A similar thing happened a while ago, when Mr. Rice went to play for the seahawks for one season, this team had already retired #80, this being Steve Largents number, but he himself decided to give Jerry the go ahead. Now, in San Francisco, Jerrys number has not even been retired, but he was faced with a familiar decision.

"I have always respected Isaac Bruce," Rice recently said on Sirius NFL Radio. "I don't know what is going to happen in that scenario but if it was left up to me I would say, 'Yeah.' For Steve Largent to do what he did for me he showed me a side of him where I just feel like I have to do the same thing. He set the standard. It would be left up to Isaac and myself to sit down and talk or if the 49ers decide to do something like that it is OK with me."

A truly incredible statement by this great NFL legend. I wonder if now after all this events, will the team decide to retire Jerrys Jersey, I guess now they will have to wait for Mr. Bruce to retire to do the ceremony. They have honored him every other way, except retiring his number.
Back in 2006, he was even signed back to the squad for one day just so he could retire a 49er, years after playing with the Raiders (2001-2004), Seahawks (2005) and the Broncos (2006) although this last one during the offseason only. The amount of this signing was $1,985,806.49, this figure being strictly ceremonial in that 1985 was the year he signed, 80 was his number, 06, the year he came back, and 49 for his team.

I really think this will have mixed feedback from 49er fans around the league, it is a true legendary number, that is being worn only by another legendary player, except... he is a division rival!!! Only a small amount of fans are expected to be happy with this decision, for now we still have to wait and see if Mr. Bruce decides to wear the number, he could always use another one...

Spygames

The latest news indicate that the lawyers of Matt Walsh (Patriots former video assistant) are planning a meeting to tell the National Football League (NFL) what he knows about the team's taping practices, a formal agreement hadn't been reached, and those close to the situation acknowledged that the logistics of when Walsh will meet with NFL officials has yet to even be discussed.

Walsh, employed by the Patriots from 1996 through the 2002 Super Bowl, has told in interviews that he has potentially damaging information about the team's video practices. The NFL didn't speak to Walsh last fall during its investigation of Spygate, when it levied a $500,000 fine to head coach Bill Belichick and a $250,000 fine to the team, and also took away the Patriots' first-round draft pick.

After initially describing the Patriots' taping as limited, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell later revealed that Belichick had admitted to using the same taping practices since he took over the Patriots in 2000.

Goodell now wants to speak with Walsh, as well as see any evidence he might have from his years as a Patriots video assistant.

Strengths: Big Guy with ideal size, proven to be intelligent and reads the defenses very well. Hes a good character player and a natural leader on and off the field. Has good mechanics with good, throwing technique and pretty good standing in the pocket. He also has the ability to roll out of the pocket and throw very well on the run. He works hard , has experience running a pro-like offense and is a tough competitor.

Weakness: Doesnt have the strongest of an arm and sometimes his throw power has been described as only average. Also has been noted to force the ball a lot causing many interceptions. Also has problems with the deep ball passing. Durability might also be a concern sometimes, although he is a big guy.

NFL Comparison: Ben Roethlisberger

Projected Round: Top 5 pick

Strenghts: He has the perfect size for his position, plus plays the game relentlessly. Is very quick off the snap and he has above average instincts and technique. He has a strong torso and very good hands. A very versatile player, he can play on different positions, down on the line and has played both 4-3 and 3-4 defensive schemes. Has above average quickness and he works hard to locate the ball, plus he has a strong work ethic so no off the field issues for him.

Weakness: May have some limitations in the NFL where he might be a better player ina 3-4 scheme, also lacks the size to play inside effectively and lacks some speed sometimes as an edge rusher.

NFL Comparison: Almost a clone of Patrick Kerney

Projected Round: Top 3 pick

Note: Son of hall of famer ex Raider DE and Fox Broadcaster Howie Long

Strengths: Some say he might be the best player in the draft, he has the potential to be a great NFL running back and is really versatile. He not only has talent as a runner, but he is also good returning kicks and can beat you with his hands. He runs hard an fast, and it is almost impossible to bring him down on the open field. Has great speed and an amazing burst, plus, he can accelerate through holes and has great footwork and vision.

Weakness: He has had some off the field issues, which some teams dont accept, and some character questions as well. Also runs a bit high, so he could be exposed to a big hit, this could also be a strong cause for fumbles. He shared the load in college with Felix Jones, so he could be better as a 1-2 punch RB. He didnt run a conventional offense in college and he could improve on his blocking.

NFL Comparison: Willie Parker

Projected Round: Top 5 pick

Note: Second place in the Heisman voting. thx to Caputi for the personal comment.

There’s has been a lot of movement and big contracts in the NFL this off-season, but let’s see which teams have done the best job in free agency this year.

WINNERS

Cleveland Brows: They signed defensive tackles Shaun Rogers from Detroit and Corey Williams from Green Bay, this should help a lot to their defense. They signed WR Donte’ Stallworth from New England, re-signed QB Derek Anderson and RB Jamal Lewis and with WR Braylon Edwards in the line-up the Browns should have a very prominent offense.

Minnesota Vikings: They signed safety Madieu Williams to help the defense. Signed WR Bernard Berrian from Chicago and FB Thomas Tapeh, to open lanes for RB Adrian Peterson next season, and Berrian should be a deep treat to those teams focusing on stopping the run.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Signed WR Jerry Porter from Raiders and WR Troy Williamson from Minnesota… to help the receiving corps. They added backup QB Cleo Lemon from Miami. At defense they signed CB Drayton Florence to help the secondary.

LOSERS

Chicago Bears: This is where I don’t understand the Bears… the re-signed QB Rex Grossman, a quarterback that has proven to be a mediocre passer and also they release WR Muhsin Muhammad and lost WR Bernard Berrian to the Vikings. They loose RB Michael Turner from San Diego to Atlanta… their only hope to help the much needed offense.

New York Giants: They loose valuable pieces from their defense, safety Gibril Wilson went to the Raiders, LB Reggie Torbor to Miami and LB Kawika Mitchell to the Bills. Also they might loose their defensive leader DE Michael Strahan if he chooses to retire.

New England Patriots: Yes they re-signed WR Randy Moss and WR Jabar Gaffney… but they lost valuable players at the defensive end. They loose CB Asante Samuel to the Eagles, CB Randal Gay to the Saints and LB Rosevelt Colvin was released. These should leave the Patriots vulnerable at their secondary.

Once you go black...

For a long time Ive been a fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and I dont know why but one day I thought, why are all the Jaguars Quarterbacks african american??? I did a little research and it seems like a lot of guys had thought about this... I mean I have nothing about the QB race, its just weird, that since brunell, every QB signed is a black QB, and This Guy has an interesting theory surrounding this subject... you can click on the pic to visit his article. Here is an extract from his piece:

"Was Mark Brunell so bad that the Jacksonville coaching staff swore off white men forever? Was he so bad that the entire race of Caucasian quarterbacks have no chance? This is like your girlfriend breaking up with you and turning lesbian. Has Mark developed a complex because of this incident? Has he undergone any therapy?"

An Amazing Tribute Video.

THE END OF AN ERA

Brett Lorenzo Favre has made his decision to retire from the NFL. Its truly the end of an era in Green Bay, and a really sad day for the fans of this great QB and the NFL in general, this was expected anytime soon, but a lot of people thought that after a great season, Favre would decide to come back again. This is not what happened. Tuesday morning it was announced by his agent Bus Cook that Favre made his decision Monday Night and informed him over the phone.
The 38 yr old Quarterback played for 16 seasons in Green Bay and retiring is one of the hardest decisions hes had to make in his life he said.

"I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired," Favre told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message.

A true legendary player. A true Hall of Famer. Congratulations Brett Favre on a wonderful career.

Some of his records include:

Career Passing Yards .................. 61,655
Career Passing Attempts ............8,758
Career Completions .....................5, 377
Career Touchdown Passes .......... 442
Career Wins as Starting QB ......... 160
Career Interceptions Thrown ........288
Most Career Games with at least 3 tds ......... 63
Consecutive Starts by a Quarterback ....... 253

FAUPDATE: SUNDAY WRAPUP

The rest of the notorious changes in free agency this weekend were:

Lot of rumors that TE Alge Crumpler has signed for 2 yrs with the Titans
Michael 'The Burner' Turner has signed with Atlanta to be their future RB for 6 seasons, Warrick Dunn is asking for his release from the team

Another juicy rumor: The Eagles and Cards are in talks for a trade involving WR Larry Fitzgerald
No clear news from DeAngelo Hall yet, sources say hes in talks with the Giants.

Keep checking to see who lands Randy Moss.

FAUPDATE: Never say Never

LB Lance Briggs just signed a 6 year $36 mil deal with the Chicago Bears, after last season having a lot of problems with the organization.
Finally the bears do something right, after basically destroying their offense and the future, with only Cedric benson on the backfield, and resigning Grossman and Orton which was a weird move, they let go Mushin Muhammad to the Panthers and Bernard Berrian to the Vikings, so who will do everything in the Bears next year? Devin Hester, I Guess.

According to the Associated Press:

Briggs had a tumultuous offseason a year ago when he vowed never to play for the Bears again after they made him a franchise player. He relented and joined the team right before training camp.

But in December, Briggs said he hoped to stay in Chicago.

"I can see myself in a lot of uniforms," Briggs said at the time. "But honestly, I can see myself in a Chicago uniform if things work out that way, which I hope they will."

We learned last season that Eli Manning is a championship-level QB. He proved that he is indeed the franchise QB for the New York Giants… and we learned the importance of having patience with a young quarterback.

But with Eli it wasn’t always like this… a lot of people and teammates where questioning the ability of their young quarterback, but coach Coughlin and the Giants had the patience to develop him into a championship QB… and it paid off.

This next season clearly will be an interesting one for a handful of quarterbacks who've endured the kind of adversity that Manning knows all too well. Alex Smith enters his fourth season in San Francisco facing questions about how long he can keep his job. Matt Leinart goes into his third season in Arizona hoping to avoid splitting time with veteran Kurt Warner. Kansas City's Brodie Croyle and Washington's Jason Campbell are among those QBs having to adjust to new offensive systems. And we certainly can't ignore the mind-boggling return of the much-maligned Rex Grossman to the Chicago Bears.

All these teams are hoping that their young QBs can turn on the switch just like Manning did… but we have to see which teams have the patience the Giants did.
