Teams around the league have been increasing on this technique more and more over the years, its been recently called the 1-2 punch as referring to the boxing expression, where they hit you hard and then they come back and hit you harder.

Teams with this philosophy have been able to become the top running teams on the league, and therefore the most effective scoring and winning games.

On this list I rank the top 5 1-2 punch running back tandems on the NFL and I will also post 5 tandems to watch out for this next season:

The top 5 are:
1. Vikings: Adrian Peterson & Chester Taylor
2. Jaguars: Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew

3. Giants: Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw

4. Redskins: Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts

5. Saints: Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush

The 5 upcoming threats:
1. Cowboys: Marion Barber and Felix Jones
2. Panthers: DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart

3. Steelers: Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall

4. Falcons: Jerious Norwood and Michael Turner

5. 49ers: Frank Gore and DeShaun Foster

there are some others that might be worth mentioning, but we still have to wait and see how this season pans out, to see who else will break out as a dangerous 1-2 punch...

Brett Favre has been chosen to be the cover athlete in the new Madden 09 videogame, he's the first non-active player to do so... since he retired from football in the past months.

The upcoming release of Madden NFL 09 on August 12 marks the 20th anniversary of the highly successful video game franchise.

Madden NFL 09 strives to take authenticity and depth of gameplay to an new level with more than 85 new features and enhancements, including the all-new Total Control Animation system. This system will allow players to perform combination moves like never before and includes an innovative picture-in-picture playcall window. In Madden NFL 09, the game engine is continually assessing the player's performance and will adapt a custom experience to every type of gamer, from newcomer to the veteran Madden NFL player.

Now we have to see if the so-called "Madden Jinx" stops here... (of course if Brett Favre doesn't return this year) or continues next year with the cover of the Madden 2010... but if this happens or not, I think EA Sports made a great call with Favre... not only because he's one of the most beloved athletes,... also because this might stop the "Madden Jinx" once and for all.

No more Madden curse...

Its official! Brett Favre has been selected to be the 2009 Cover for the new Madden game, this way raising the question... will the cover jinx remain even if the player is not on the field anymore???

Free Chad

The pressure continues from Ocho Cinco, and now his manager, the infamous Drew Rosenhaus, who some might remember of the TO press conference scandal... this time he comes on TV pleading the Bengals to trade Chad Johnson...

Its amazing what a player will do to show off and get more money, I personally dont think its fair for the Bengals, since they had signed him for a 6 yr contract and he has just played 1 year... I mean he was in the teams Long Term plans and is ruining them just for his personal benefit...

In my opinion they should dare him to sit out, and he will not do so... he loves playing football and is just a spoiled little kid...

With a lot of trades going on before the draft and during the draft... like DE Jared Allen sent to the Vikings... or CB Pacman Jones to the Cowboys... here is a list of the Top 10 Draft Trades in NFL history that I found on nfl.com.

1.- 1985: 49ers trade up for Jerry Rice
Many dismissed Rice before the 1985 draft, but Bill Walsh traded picks with New England to move up and get the young phenom.

2.- 1999: Rams trade 2 picks for Marshall Faulk
The Rams traded second- and fifth-round picks to the Colts for Faulk, and went on to win Super Bowl XXXIV with the "Greatest Show on Turf".

3.- 1987: 49ers trade 2 picks for Steve Young
Bill Walsh sent second- and fourth-round picks to Tampa Bay and the 49ers received a valuable successor to Joe Montana in Young.

4.- 1999: Saints trade 8 picks for Ricky Williams
New Orleans sent eight draft picks to Washington in order to move up to the fifth overall pick and take the Texas running back.

5.- 1977: Dallas steals Tony Dorsett for four picks
The Seahawks traded the second overall pick to Dallas for four picks. The Cowboys proceeded to nab Dorsett and the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

6.- 2001: Michael Vick for LaDainian Tomlinson
The Falcons and Chargers swapped picks and players. Atlanta took Vick with the No. 1 overall pick, while San Diego got Tomlinson with the fifth.

7.- 1990: Colts trade 4 players for Jeff George
The Colts traded four players to the Falcons, including WR Andre Rison in order to select the Illinois quarterback.

8.- 1970: Dolphins deal for Paul Warfield
The Dolphins traded their first overall pick for one of the league's best receivers and went on to win the Super Bowl two seasons later.

9.- 1996: Steelers trade 2 picks for Jerome Bettis
The Steelers sent two picks to the Rams and helped Bettis establish himself as "The Bus" in Pittsburgh's smash-mouth offense.

10.- 2004: Eli Manning for Philip Rivers
The Chargers took Manning with the top overall choice and traded him to the Giants for Rivers (the fourth overall selection) and three draft picks.

The trade frenzy continues, it has now been made official, the Dallas Cowboys have obtained Pacman Jones from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a fourth round pick. The pick is conditional, because the cowboys arent sure if Jones is going to play, if he doesnt, then Dallas recovers the fourth round pick for next year.
Pacman has been arrested six times since he was drafted, but we know dallas likes to get troubled players on their team... probably next: Chris Henry, to replace Terry Glenn...

Jared Allen to the Vikings

The pre draft movements continue at a quick pace... The Minnesota Vikings have just traded for Kansas City's DE Jared Allen. Allen recorded 15.5 sacks last season and went straight to the Pro Bowl, he is a great fit for minnesota who really had a need at the position, specially since one of their leading DE's Kenechi Udeze, was diagnosed with leukemia a couple of months ago.

The price for Allen was pretty expensive, since the Chiefs will get the Vikes #1 pick, plus two third rounders for this years draft... so the Chiefs could now get a nice upgrade and pick maybe a nice DE with the fifth pick...

Seahawks Release Alexander

I was not shoked to hear that the Seattle Seahawks released today RB Shaun Alexander... a former league MVP back in 2005... I think we all see it coming for a while... I mean they signed two RB's in free agency (RB T.J. Duckett and RB Julius Jones) and let's be honest... Alexander has been injured the most part of the last two seasons... he's getting old for a RB (he's 30 years old) and he doesn't have the Offensive line he use to had back when he won the MVP award.

Now let's see which teams give a chance to Alexander... I personally think it would be a gamble... but let's see what happens.

The Miami Dolphins have made a shocking announcement today, with the first round pick of the 2008 nfl draft, the team has signed OT Jake Long to a 5 year contract worth 57.5 million dollars with 30 million guaranteed. I guess Bill Parcells really wants QB protection to build this team, he might go with Chad Henne with the 2nd round and have Tackle and QB reunited... that could be an interesting decision, and I wouldnt be surprised, knowing Parcells style...

Both mock drafts wrong?

Reports are coming out of Miami that despite, recent rumors about OT Jake Long not wanting to go play with the Dolphins, the team is already close to sealing the deal with his agent Tom Condon. If the phins take Jake Long with the first pick, it is almost certain that the Rams will go defensively with the 2nd pick, and Chris Long has already said that he believes he will be playing for the rams in years to come...

The Rookie's Mock Draft

Here is my version of a mock NFL Draft, dont be so cruel people, remembre its my first attempt at this and I only hope to get better at doing it, hopefully soon youll also see the Mentor's mock draft. Let the Bashing begin!

1. Miami – . Jake Long OT Michigan Jake Long has already signed a 5 yr contract with the Dolphins.
2. St Louis – Glenn Dorsey DT LSU. The Rams will most likely go defensive with this pick and Dorsey is their guy right here.
3. Atlanta – Matt Ryan QB Boston College.
With no Vick, and no clear situation, they get a nice franchise quarterback.
4. Oakland – .
Chris Long DE Virginia. Like right out of a movie, if no trade occurs here, the raiders pick up Howie Long's son Chris, and continue to make history at the position.
5. Kansas City – Ryan Clady OT Boise St.
O-Line is getting old, and they need great improvements there.
6. NY Jets – Darren McFadden RB Arkansas.
The Jets get real lucky he falls to their lap right here.
7. NE – Leodis McKelvin CB Troy.
Excellent fit for the patriots defensive modes, they could easily go LB also, both areas need great improvements.
8. Baltimore – Brian Brohm QB Louisville.
With air McNair retiring from pro football, and Ryan gone, this is a sure pick for them.
9. Bengals – Vernon Gholston DE Ohio State.
Big steal by the bengals here at number 9 to get him so cheap.
10. NO – Keith Rivers LB USC.
If they dont lose him to NE he is a good fit here for the awful run defense of the saints.
11. Bills – Sedrick Ellis DE USC. The bills g
et a great pass rusher to improve an already great D.
12. Broncos – Sam Baker OT USC.
Excellent fit for the Broncos offensive minded playbooks.
13. Carolina – Kenny Phillips FS Miami.
Fills a great hole, big need for the Panthers.
14. Chicago – Johnathan Stewart RB Oregon.
They get a good RB and fill a great hole in their offense.
15. Detroit – Mike Jenkins CB South Florida.
Need to improve against the pass quickly.
16. Arizona – Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois.
Lets face it, Edge is not getting any younger and Mendenhall fits their schemes perfectly.
17. Minnesota – Chad Henne QB Michigan.
Big surprise here, but it is clear that Tarvaris Jackson is not their answer and with the great team they have already they need a really good leader for their offense. Henne is the man.
18. Houston – Devin Thomas WR/KR Michigan State.
They get an excellent playmaker to play alongside Andre Johnson.
19. Philadelphia – Antoine Cason CB Arizona.
With Lito Sheppard unstable and probably leaving, they get a great playmaker for defense.
20. Tampa Bay – Derrick Harvey DE Florida.
Improvements for their awful pass rushing D.
21. Redskins – Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma.
They get a tall guy to play opposite speedy Santana Moss and great weapons for Jason Campbell.
22. Dallas – Felix Jones RB Arkansas.
Julius left via Free Agency… No problem, we get his baby bro here.
23. Pittsburgh – Chris Williams OT Vanderbilt.
With Faneca gone to the Jets in free agency, they get help here alongside the line to protect Big Ben.
24. Tennessee – DeSean Jackson WR California.
They need to improve Vince Youngs receivers if they want to improve his numbers.
25. Seattle – Fred Davis TE USC.
Real bad year for TEs but this guy is worth the pick right here.
26. Jacksonville – Phillip Merling DE Clemson.
The Jaguars love taking WRs in the first round and with Manningham available it will be hard not to take him, but they cannot pass on Merling.
27. San Diego – Pat Sims DT Auburn.
They already have great DEs and LBs they need some improvement in the middle.
28. Dallas – Mario Manningham WR Michigan.
Another pick for the boys, they pick up another offensive player, terry glenn’s future is uncertain.
29. San Francisco – Quentin Groves DE Auburn.
Pick up a great player who can also be used as an OLB to help Patrick Willis stop the run.
30. Green Bay – Aqib Talib CB Kansas.
Im not so sure about this pick, they might want to improve the O Line to give Rodgers more protection.
31. NE –
Forfeited after SpyGate incident.
32. NY Giants –
Jeff Otah OT Pittsburgh. Give Eli more protection from their side as well as some improvement to their running game.

NFL 2008 Schedule

The 2008 NFL season schedule is out.

The season starts on thursday Sep. 4 with the Washington Redskins visiting the Super Bowl Champs N.Y. Giants.

There's a lot of discontent around the league about the strength of the schedule of the New England Patriots... who get the easiest schedule with the .387 opponents' 07 winning percentage, compared with the Steelers .598 and the Colts .594 who get the toughest schedule.

With this the Patriots can extend their winning season record to 23... cause the first real test will be the visit to San Diego on Oct. 12... and who knows... they even might go undefeated again, they only face 4 teams that went to the playoffs last season (Chargers, Colts, Steelers and Seahawks).

The must see games of the season are:

Patriots at Colts - Nov. 2: Two of the greats... Brady vs Manning.
Colts at Chargers - Nov. 23: Manning, Vinatieri seeking redemption.
Patriots at Chargers - Oct. 12: Unfinished business for Tomlinson.
Giants at Cowboys - Dec. 14: Cowboys couldn't beat 'em when it really mattered.
Steelers at Browns - Sept. 14: Always a classic.
Jaguars at Colts - Sept. 21: Jaguars have lost past three in Indy.
Cowboys at Packers - Sept. 21: Aaron Rodgers played well at Dallas.
Steelers at Patriots - Nov. 30: Schedule sends Steelers to New England... again.

Goodbye 'Air' McNair

Its been announced today that actual Ravens QB Steve McNair, will go live on television later today to officialy claim his retirement from the league.
Mcnair played 13 seasons in the NFL, including 11 for the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and 2 for the Baltimore Ravens, he was co MVP in the 2003 season along with Peyton Manning, he ranks fifth all time in rushing yards by a QB and third all time in rushing TDs. he played the Super Bowl back in 1999 and lost by the infamous 'one yard' play.
Being a Jaguar Fan myself I always had trouble accepting Mcnairs greatness... but he truly was a great player, I remember a season where he was playing with at least 6 or 7 injuries in his body... he has truly made his image of a tough QB, similar to Brett Favre, this guy just never gave up even with all the injuries he had, hes been a warrior for a long time...

Its been an exciting journey and a great player will be missed... dam, thats 2 great QBs retiring the same season.

A tough act to follow

pictured from left Jim Harbaugh, Brian Griese, Tom Brady, Chad Henne

Its not easy being a QB in the league, but its way harder if you come from a school that has the tradition of breeding good quarterbacks. This is the case for Michigan's Chad Henne, a school that has seen the likes of Jim Harbaugh, Brian Griese, Tom Brady, Elvis Grbac and Todd Collins, just to name a few of the great ones.

Some have failed to impress in the NFL, specially in recent years, the last great michigan QB is Tom Brady, but Drew Henson and John Navarre who played good in college, failed to make an impact on the NFL. Henson made an effort with the Cowboys and then with the Vikings until he was finally cut, and Navarre is currently a free agent after being cut from the Colts training camp.

Its tough to be coming out of Michigan, but this is not the case for Chad Henne, right now he is really secure of his position in the draft and is ready for whatever challenge comes. He broke a lot of the passing records in the University including most touchdowns, most completions, most yards and most interceptions. He is a great prospect for this years draft, and might come in as the steal of the draft, for he is not one of the favorite QBs this year, but he definitely has the size and strength to be a great player in the league...

He has already drawn interest of 8 teams in the league, who have invited him to work out for them at their facilities, this teams include the Seahawks, the Jets, the Falcons, the Ravens, the Buccaneers, the Dolphins, the Rams and the Redskings... the Bears and the Cowboys have also shown interest on this young player.

Well only have to wait for draft day and see...

Top 10 Draft Steals

With the NFL draft just a few days away, I found this Top 10 list on nfl.com... about the best draft steals of all-time... I thought it was interesting and wanted to share it with you.

1.- Tom Brady, sixth-round pick in 2000. Brady has led the Patriots to four Super Bowls and three titles since 2001. As the MVP in 2007, he set an NFL record with 50 touchdown passes.

2.- Joe Montana, third-round pick in 1979. The 49ers won four Super Bowls with Montana at quarterback during the 1980s and he landed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

3.- Terrell Davis, sixth-round pick in 1995. Davis rushed for 6,413 yards in his first four seasons for the Broncos, helping Denver to wins in Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII.

4.- Deacon Jones, 14th-round pick in 1961. Jones played in eight Pro Bowls, including seven straight for the Rams, as a pass rush specialist and won Defensive Player of the Year honors twice.

5.- Dan Marino, first-round pick in 1983. Even though the Dolphins took Marino 27th overall, five quarterbacks were taken before the man who rewrote the NFL's passing record book.

6.- Bo Jackson, seventh-round pick in 1987. Jackson was the top overall pick in 1986, but didn't sign with the Bucs. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry with Oakland in a career shortened by injury.

7.- Shannon Sharpe, seventh-round pick in 1990. In 14 seasons, Sharpe won three Super Bowls. At the time he retired in 2003, he held the tight end record for receptions, yards and touchdowns.

8.- Ray Guy, first-round pick in 1973. The only punter ever to be taken in the first round of the draft, Guy averaged 42.4 yards on his punts over 14 seasons with the Raiders.

9.- Larry Wilson, seventh-round pick in 1960. During Wilson's 13-year career with the Cardinals, the safety made eight Pro Bowls and had 52 interceptions en route to being enshrined in Canton.

10.- Roger Staubach, 10th-round pick in 1964. With Staubach under center, the Cowboys scored victories in Super Bowls VI and XII. He led the NFL in passing four times and went to six Pro Bowls.

In this list in my opinion I will put Jerry Rice, although he was selected 16th overall in the first round in 1985... he was the third receiver selected that year... and as you already know... Rice became the greatest receiver in the game.

The 49ers comanded by legendary coach Bill Walsh pulled a pick trade preventing the Cowboys... who had the 17th pick... to get Rice, would you imagine Jerry Rice in a Cowboys uniform?

I know I can't.

The Drafts Home

Just for 2 years the NFL draft has been in the Radio City music hall in New York City, home to the famous show the Rockettes. Before that it was held in Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks play, now in 2009 the contract is over, and talks are already surrounding if the draft is still going to be there, or if they are going to use a more football oriented place, not a stadium, but maybe something like that.. or even a traditional stadium like the coliseum in California....

Whatever decision they make, I hope that they do use a more football oriented place...

Comeback anyone?

Rumors are strongly going around the NFL that Mr. Brett Favre is toying around with the idea of returning to the NFL. Sources have saide to have heard Favre say 'If I get a good offer from the team I may consider returning to play for them'
I personally dont believe that Favre will return to Lambeau Field as a player ever again, but I might be wrong, Jordan returned around that age and scored 50 points in a game...
Well just have to wait and see, I just hope he doesnt sell out to another team, if he returns he better come to the packers...

The Jaguars finalized a deal on Monday with David Garrard who was entering the last year of his contract. Garrard, 30, signed a deal worth almost 60 million for 7 years, making him the best paid QB in Jaguars history, which is not much, but its already been almost 15 years... With this signing the Jags are also guaranteeing that they will have a good QB for years to come...

An interesting move doing 7 years, in my opinion, I mean, he had one good year, I wouldve waited and see how well he plays this one, or at least sign him maybe for 5 years...

Giants' Super Bowl Ring

The New York Giants unveiled the design of their Super Bowl championship ring on Tuesday, a white gold sparkler that will feature about 1.5 carats in diamonds.

The ring's top is covered in diamonds and features three Super Bowl trophies accented with marquise diamonds signifying the Giants' Super Bowl XXI, XXV and XLII victories. The team's "NY" logo is in bead set round diamonds, while "World Champions" is emblazoned in raised letters on the top and bottom bezel, with channel set diamonds on left and right bezel.

The ring's shanks celebrate the Giants' season, noting the team's "Eleven Straight on the Road," an NFL record; the NFL shield; and player name, along with player number in raised letters appear on one shank. The final score, "Super Bowl XLII," date and 'AZ' appear on the other shank.

Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon would not disclose the price of the ring. Tiffany has previously created Super Bowl championship rings for the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The company annually creates the NFL Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy at its workshop in Parsippany, about 30 minutes from Giants Stadium. The rings will be presented to the Giants players and coaches at a ceremony later in the spring.

Every year there are a lot of experts working on analyzing the best prospects for the NFL, they travel all around the US looking for skilled players, sometimes even to Mexico or Canada in search of the next great star of football... also, each year they do what is called a 'scouting report' which is exactly what it sounds like, in which they list his pros and cons, and teams can use this to make a better selection on their draft day.

This is a fun example of an NFL bust, and how these reports are not always accurate, and even sometimes completely whack. Rashaun Woods, was a WR in the NFL for a little bit, he was drafted with the 31st pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2004 and now plays for the Hamilton Tiger Cats on the Canadian Football League. Here is the extract of the scouting report posted on NFL.com on 2004:

Rashaun Woods

Positives: Has a well-defined body with solid lower body and calf development and room in his upper body to add additional bulk … Has good quickness in and out of his breaks, showing sudden movements to get open and gain yardage after the catch … Gets off the line of scrimmage and into his routes immediately … Runs outstanding pass routes, showing crispness and explosive stop-and-go agility … Reads coverages well, making proper adjustments on the run … Can turn a short catch into a big play with his speed … Has strong hands and the ability to catch away from the body's frame … Remains focused and has great toughness catching in a crowd (will take the hit and hold on) … His speed and hip swerve allows him to elude defenders after the catch … Has excellent l
eg drive and strength to break arm tackles and drag defenders for extra yardage … Willing blocker who will not back down from a fight, getting good position and hand placement on the defender … Role model-type who can handle pressure … Has the separation speed to defeat most defensive backs in the deep zone … Relishes his role as the go-to receiver and has proven to be the difference-maker with the game on the line. Negatives: Few, if any flaws in his game, but could do a better job of tracking the ball in over his shoulder on deep routes (has misjudged these passes on more than one occasion).

They describe him as the ideal player that is going to come to your team and make an immediate impact as a playmaker, he looks as the answer to all your needs, a guy who almost has no flaws... tracking the ball over your shoulder is the most important thing in Football...
apparently hahahah...

Anyways, he was cut by the 49ers in 2006, picked by the Chargers and dropped in the same year, then picked by the Broncos also on 2006, until he was finally sent to NFL Europe an
d played for a year with the Hamburg Sea Devils, this past year he played with the Toronto Argonauts and has now been cut and picked up by some other team called the Tiger Cats... next up: The Tigres of the UANL in Mexico, or maybe even Avispones. (Local Jokes haha)

So every team should be aware of the scouting reports, not because it looks great it means its great, because on that report what they offered was a Flying Rolls Royce and what the 9ers got was like a banged up AMC Gremlin or a Ford Pinto.

Youre with me leather...

This phrase has become a famous quote all around the web and it is attributed to one of the greatest broadcasters of all time... Mr. Chris Berman. The quote came from a rumor posted on Deadspin, a famous sports website and the note read something like this... Back in the mid 1990s the Deadspin's editor claims to have been flirting in a bar with a hot girl with leather pants, but the girl had no interest whatsoever in him, after some time, Berman came in the bar and went to the girl and told her 'Youre with me leather', the woman immediatly got up and left the bar with Chris.

Chris Berman was born in Connecticut and joined ESPN only a month after its foundation. He is one of my favorite sportscasters and its a great experience seeing him narrate a game, even better, when he analyzes the highlights of the week... I always tell my friends that watching Chris narrate highlights is my way of visualizing how the late Chris Farley would've narrated games.

He is also well known for making sound effects while narrating, hes already made famous his trademarked woop! whenever a player does an amazing move on a defender... he also makes truck noises whenever a fullback is going for the end zone... but he is best known for associating fun nicknames to the players.

Here is a list of some of his most famous nicknames given to NFL players throughout time and next to it a short explanation...

- Curtis 'My Favorite' Martin (TV series 'My Favorite Martian')
- 'Well dressed' Amani Toomer (Armani)
- Joseph 'Live and let' Addai (Bond Film 'Live and let die')
- Tom 'Heres a story of a man named' Brady (Brady Bunch)
- Tedy 'Ice cold' Bruschi (Brewski for beer)
- Zack 'Davey' Crockett (Hero Davey Crockett)
- Karlos 'Tiny' Dansby (Tiny Dancer)
- 'Robin Hood and little' John Elway (Little John)
- Jeff 'Philadelphia' Feagles (Philadelphia Eagles)
- Samkon 'In' Gado 'We trust' (Phrase, In god we trust)
- Rich 'Loose' Gannon (Loose Cannon)
- Michael 'Como esta' Husted (spanish expression)
- Sean 'V for' Landeta (V for Vendetta)
- Peyton 'The Sailor' Manning (Popeye)

- Kyle Orton 'Hears a who' (Dr Seuss book and movie)
- Jonathan 'Vilmaaaaa' (the Flintstones)

No clear cut #1 WR

Almost every year there is one Elite player for each position of the NFL draft, and there is even a year where there is a standout player like Reggie Bush in 06 or Calvin Johnson in 07, Peyton Manning back in 98, Troy Aikman in 89 and John Elway in 83, even Terry Bradshaw back in 1970.

Well this year, the WR class is not that unique and it might be even better for NFL teams, sometimes there is too much hype surrounding an NFL player, that his desire to be proved the best can somehow be dissappointing and sometimes even ruin careers... remember Ryan Leaf???

This year the WRs are a different story, there is not someone who experts say will be the first receiver off the board... some say the best out there is Malcolm Kelly from OU with his great size and strength, others qualify Devin Thomas as the best, with his RBlike speed and ability to return kickoffs... but something is quite certain... there is not one who stands out from the group, and as I said before, this could be good for them, the mere fact that theres not the spotlight just on one of them, makes them all strive to be called the best WR of his year, so I think picking up any of this six players on the draft, is going to make a quick impact on teams in great needs of WRs, such as Philadelphia or Buffalo...

Remember a certain someone picked up back in 06 after the draft was over??? his name is Marques Colston and he is one of the greatest WRs right now in the league... why is this? because there was no hype around him and he had to struggle to be the Best.

So its a nice thing that this year there is no definite #1 WR and it will be an interesting story throughout this season, checking out who gets to be the true #1. These are MR Playbook´s 6 best WRs from this years draft:

clockwise from top left: from Texas Limas Sweed, from Michigan State
Devin Thomas, from Oklahoma University Malcolm Kelly,
from Cal DeSean Jackson, from Michigan Mario Manningham
and from LSU Early Doucet.

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has signed a contract extension, getting rewarded for winning his first playoff game.

Del Rio's raise was undisclosed Thursday, but it was expected to be a significant jump from the original five-year, $6.5 million contract he signed when he joined the club in 2003. Del Rio already had received one pay bump, getting a one-year extension following the 2005 season. That one followed a 12-4 season and the franchise's first playoff berth since 1999.

The Jaguars were 11-5 last year, beat Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs and then ended the season with a 31-20 loss at New England.

Jacksonville is 45-35 in five years under Del Rio.

Partying With Leinart

Apparently Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart knows his way around the football field... and he also knows how to party!

Reportedly he held a party this weekend at his home in the Phoenix Area, and some photos are already on the web.

Among the four photos splashed across Web sites thedirty.com and TMZ.com over the weekend, Leinart was shown assisting a co-ed drinking from a beer bong in one and sharing a hot tub with four women in another.

After seeing Internet photos of Matt Leinart partying last weekend at his Arizona home, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said he was "disappointed" in his quarterback.

Let's see if this affects the coach decision of naming Matt Leinart the starting QB for next season.

Defensive Helmet Radios

Taking another technological step forward, league owners approved a communication device for defenses at the NFL Annual Meeting today... by one vote.

One defensive player will wear a helmet similar to what the quarterback is allowed on offense. Should that player leave the game, another player can be designated to also have the device. But only one defender with the device can be on the field at a time.

The vote was 25-7 in favor... 24 yes votes were required... and all seven negatives came from head coaches with offensive backgrounds.

Voting against the measure were Seattle (Mike Holmgren), Tampa Bay (Jon Gruden), Oakland (Lane Kiffin), Philadelphia (Andy Reid), St. Louis (Scott Linehan), Washington (Jim Zorn) and Green Bay (Mike McCarthy).

Colts Season Opener

The Indianapolis Colts will play their first 2008 season game on a new field... their opener is against the Bears in the new Lucas Oil Stadium. This superbowl rematch has been announced that will be on NBC's Football Night in America andit will be the first game played on this stadium, since the preseason games will be played at a baseball park in Indianapolis.

The Lucas Oil Stadium was worth around 700 million dollars to build, like the Cardinals Stadium and the Cowboys coming stadium, it has a retractable roof that can open for some games and be closed for other games. It has a capacity of 63,000 and if it should host a super bowl or some kind of event like that it can be expanded for 70,000 seats... their old RCA dome held about 58,000 seats...

In my opinion its not a great stadium... it looks kind of like an old warehouse, but maybe thats what they were going for there...
