Rumors fly around the NFL all the time, this time is a big one... Just got word from another source that the St. Louis Rams are up for sale, and there IS a potential buyer, not only a potential buyer but a former rival of the Rams... ex 49er owner and sometimes controversial Eddie DeBartolo.
During DeBartolo's 22 years controlling the 49ers, they won 5 super bowls, and had the highest winning decade in NFL history, and many of his former players have called him one of the most generous owners in the NFL. He was implicated in a corruption case of former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards. He pleaded guilty to giving a 400,000 dollar bribe to gain a casino license. He was fined and barred from active control of the 49ers for a year.
He gave up control of the team in the year 2000 ceding control to his sister who had previously been the owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The price seems to be around 850-900 million dollars. Their lease of the Edward Jones Stadium finishes by 2012, so that would probably be the final year if this were to go through. Another high league source says that the team that might be up for sale are the Jacksonville Jaguars, but apparently these rumors have been going around for several years now...
Anyways if its the Rams or if its the Jags, or even the Bills moving to Toronto... the selling rumors are always fun to watch, I'll just have to say that if the Jags move somewhere else, I might be a little bit disappointed at first, but I'll follow them anywhere they go to...
