Titans Anniversary

The 2008 season will mark the 10th year that the Tennessee Titans joined the league after moving the team from Houston... The Oilers left Houston following the 1996 season and they played the complete 97 season as the Memphis Oilers, they then moved on 1998 to Tennessee to become the Tennessee Oilers who would later turn into the Titans.

To conmemorate this event the administration unveiled a new team logo for the 2008 season that included the state of the Tennessee on the bottom and a number ten on top of the logo:

After changing the name from the Oilers in back in 1999, the organization decided to keep the records and all the history from the team in Tennessee, therefore, the Houston Texans dont have the rights to the Oilers records and player names, the Titans Do.
When thinking of a new name for the team, the teams owner Bud Adams, asked that the name should represent strength, power, leadership and other heroic qualities. on December Adams announced that the team had chosen the name Tennessee Titans, a name which represented all these qualities and also served as a nod to Nashville's Nickname ' The Athens of the South ' because of all its universities and vast architecture.

Some interesting insights of the Titans history, a special article by request for Mr. F
