The New Orleans Saints have opened up their wallets... and the cash keeps on flowing this offseason, this time they did it to pay up their disgruntled star Defensive End Will Smith (the other Will Smith), he had already spoken out that he was looking for a new contract or he would look for other options... and the Saints listened and they listened good...
The new deal apparently is worth 70 million dollars!!! thats right 70 million! the deal supposedly includes 26 mil guaranteed, can you just imagine, he already has 26 in the pocket? What's even more amazing? this doesn't make him the highest paid DE in the league... it makes him the THIRD!!!! the third highest paid! behind the Vikes Jared Allen and the Colts Dwight Freeney.
Smith was the first round pick by the Saints back in 2004 out of The Ohio State University, a school known for recently producing excellent defensive players (A.J. Hawk, Shawn Springs, Mike Vrabel), he made the pro bowl in 2006, and in 2007 he led the Saints with 7 total sacks.
This is part of the currently aggressive Super Bowl run the Saints want to make this next couple of years, and they already made a big impact in 2006, lets see if 2008 is the year for them or they will have to wait another season... what we do know is that they are building up a really nice team that will give us good football for years to come...
On a personal note, this is the stud LE I use when I play madden and he does live up to his reputation... he is a monster on the field...
